Steve McQueen: A Tribute to the King of Cool (Dalton Watson Fine Books) is the biography of the legendary actor as told by family, friends, co-stars, business associates, acquaintances and fans. The book will be released on November 1st, six days prior to the 30th anniversary of McQueens death.
The 384-page book is composed of 200 passages and hundreds of photos. The book illustrates McQueens life and movie career, as well as his passion for automobiles, motorcycles and antique airplanes, but it also details his final hours.
McQueen died of the rare cancer caused by prolonged asbestos exposure called mesothelioma. His doctors recount their personal stories of McQueens illness and how he fought until the end. Mesothelioma treatment is aggressive and consists of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, there is no cure, and mesothelioma patients rarely live longer than 18 months because the cancer is usually detected in advanced stages.
