Ten councils have been told that they are putting children’s lives at risk by not making sure that asbestos in schools is managed safely.
The Health and Safety Executive said that while schools acted responsibly on the issue, enforcement notices had to go out to Bedford, Doncaster, Harrow, Kent, Lambeth, Medway, South Gloucestershire, Thurrock, Waltham Forest and Worcestershire.
HSE spokeswoman Rosalind Roberts, said: “Those responsible for managing asbestos must be properly trained and management plans which set out the measures to be taken to manage the risks must be in place and readily available.”
